Celebrating receiving Certificate for Chinese Traditional Painting and Calligraphy

In 1984 I began travelling to China , which began my enthusiasm for the country, its culture and people. I began to learn Mandarin Chinese (language) in China and have since successfully completed three years of accredited study in the Modern Languages department at the University of Birmingham.

Also at the University of Birmingham, School of Continuing Studies I received accreditation for two courses, The Theory of Chinese Landscape Painting and The Practice of Chinese Brush Painting. Further credits were gained from a one year course, The Uninhibited Oriental Brush ( Chinese and Japanese art ), studied at the University of Keele.

My personal tutor, for five years, in Britain has been Professor Jiang Jiehong, a graduate in Fine Arts and Traditional Chinese Painting from Shanghai University. I have also studied (over three years) with Qu Lei Lei , a world famous Chinese painter.

Since 1999 I have travelled to many parts of China specifically to study with Chinese artists. In 2002 I completed a study course in Chinese calligraphy and traditional painting at the International Art Academy , University of Hangzhou. I also studied at Shaoxing School of Calligraphy (now the University of Shaoxing) with tutor Gao Ye.

My calligraphy and paintings cover a wide range of subjects, styles and techniques. I particularly enjoy painting compositions to complement my calligraphy of Chinese classical poems .

Today, whilst retaining the traditional techniques of Chinese painting, I am moving them forward into the creation of more contemporary artworks.
